CHICOPEE- Elise Marie (Morin) Pion, 93, a lifelong Chicopee resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Willimansett Center Nursing Home. Elise was born in Springfield on May 3, 1926, a daughter of the late Charles and Rita (Desilets) Morin. She was raised and educated in Chicopee, attending local schools including St. George Catholic School in Chicopee Falls and Cathedral High school. She was a devoted Catholic and was a communicant of the former St. George Church and Mary, Mother of Hope Church. Elise worked for the Wall Street Journal, Brennan College Service and also the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance in Springfield for many years before retiring. She loved gardening, knitting, sewing and was an avid reader. Elise was very supportive of the Chicopee library and was chosen to serve on the advisory board for the new library. Elise’s true calling was being a Mom. She loved babies and children of all ages. She was an intrepid explorer, taking a car full of kids to parks, ponds, beaches and many other fun destinations. She loved all of her grandbabies and could not get enough of them. Elise was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Raymond J. Pion on February 25, 2010 and her cherished granddaughter, Megan Pion. She leaves her six children; Mark S. Pion and his wife Kathleen of Northampton, Jeanne M. Tryon and her husband Herb of East Longmeadow, Susan I. Martin and her husband Leo of Chicopee, Betty M. Deegan and her husband John of Kennebunk, ME, Jack R. Pion and his wife Lisa of Easthampton, and Jim C. Pion and Laura Thorp of Chicopee. Her 12 cherished grandchildren, Jessica, Andy, Tony, Katie, Christopher, Greg, Mathew, Sam, Lauren, Joe, Ben, and A.J.; two beloved great-grandchildren, Pablo and Lily. She leaves her siblings; Stella Presnal, Jerome Morin and Thomas Morin and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by several siblings; Charles, Freemont and Richard Morin and Irene Badal as well as several beloved members of the Pion family. Calling hours at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee will be Friday morning, July 26, 2019 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a liturgy of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus RC Parish of Assumption Church, 94 Springfield St., Chicopee. Rites of Committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Hampden St., Chicopee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elise’s memory to Autism Speaks, 85 School St., Suite 100, Watertown, MA 02472.
