George F. Girard, 91, of Wildermere Street in Chicopee passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 5, 2020 in Holyoke. George was born in North Adams on Dec. 6, 1928, a son to the late Francis G. and May (Leonasio) Girard. He attended schools in North Adams, Mass. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1945, proudly serving aboard the USS Prinz Eugen and the USS General Randall. He was honorably discharged, returning home in 1947. George married Betty A. Jensen on August 10, 1951 in Everett, Massachusetts and they settled in Williamstown, MA. beginning their family, relocating to the Chicopee area in the early 70’s. George was a Steam Fireman working for LinWeave Paper in Holyoke and Ashland Hercules Water Technologies (Solenis) in Chicopee for many years prior to his retirement. George was a proud veteran and a lifetime member of the Aldenville American Legion Post 337. He leaves his beloved wife of 69 years; Betty A. (Jensen) Girard of Chicopee. His children; Rhea Nora (Bernard) Lord of Warren, MA., Wayne A. (Lisa) Girard of Savoy, MA. and Raymond S. (Debbie) Girard of Orange, MA. His cherished 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his siblings; Geraldine Luczynski-Chouiniere and Wilfred A. Girard and two step siblings, Francis and Victor Girard. At George’s request all services will be private with interment with full military honors in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
