SPRINGFIELD – Howard H. “Howie” Wescott, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2017 in Chicopee. He was born in East Longmeadow on November 23, 1927 the son of the late George and Electa (Sulham) Wescott. Howard moved to Springfield in his youth attending Brookings Elementary and Springfield Trade High School. Howard was a WW II Veteran, proudly serving in the US Army with the 84th Quartermaster supply. He was honorably discharged and returned home in 1947. Always missing his one true love, Elizabeth “Betty” Leavitt, who he had met in sixth grade, they were married November 13, 1948 at St. Michael's Cathedral in Springfield. Howie and Betty enjoyed 63 years of love, life and family until her passing in 2012. Howie had worked for the United States Postal Service over 25 years before “retiring”. Never one to sit still, he went to work at Stop & Shop and then East Springfield Flower Shop before finally "truly" retiring in 2006. Howie will forever be missed by his daughters, Diane Adams and her husband Tom of Ludlow, Gail Messier and her husband Gary of Chicopee and Susan Wescott-Rivard of Chicopee. Pop will forever be in the hearts of his ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was sadly predeceased by his daughter Linda Docherty and her husband William, his son-in-law Jules Rivard Jr. and his eight siblings; Julia, Mae, Ruth, Frank, George, Ernie, Lester and Robert. Calling hours for Howard will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:30-11 a.m. at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee. A Funeral service will be held at the Tylunas Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. followed by Rites of Committal with Military honors in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 985 Parker St., Springfield.
