With profound sadness the family announces the death of Kathryn Wall on March 20, 2021. Kathy had been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. Her condition was well managed until very recently. She passed peacefully at home in the arms of her husband and daughter.
Kathy was born in Ludlow on January 8, 1943. She spent much of her childhood in Monson, and moved to West Warren in 1964 where she raised her family. When her children left the nest, Kathy moved to Chicopee in 1984. That was the same year she met Dick. It was the beginning of a 35 year love affair that was apparent to all who knew them.
As a nurse for 31 years, Kathy accepted any challenge that required her skills and caring manner. She was an LPN at the former Belchertown State School for 17 years. In 1989 she became a Registered Nurse and spent the next 14 years providing home care and hospice services in Hampden County. She retired in 2002.
Both Kathy and Dick felt blessed to have had an active and happy retirement together. Several times a year, she and Dick visited their favorite vacation spots on the East coast. Kathy loved reading, gardening, bird watching and keeping active at the gym and senior center. Most of all she treasured the family gatherings and holiday celebrations with her children and their families, and get-togethers with siblings and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathy loved family deeply, and the love was returned in kind.
Kathy was predeceased by her parents, James R. Martin II and Bernice (Taylor) Crocker; and brothers, Kenneth T. Martin and James R. Martin III. She leaves her husband Richard J. Wall of Chicopee; son, Dean C. Snyder and his wife Cheryl of Springfield; son, Robert D. Snyder and his wife Louise of Epping, NH; and daughter, Constance A. Martyn and her husband Richard of East Kingston, NH; and Dick’s daughters, Kate Wall of Southbridge, MA. and Sara Gladu and husband Justin of Upton, MA.
She is also survived by brothers, George Martin and his wife Elaine of Dudley, MA.; Robert Martin and his wife Nanette of Dudley, MA., Alan Martin and his partner Madonna Harris of Webster, MA.; Kevin Martin and his wife Debbie of Niceville, FLA.; and sisters, Constance Martin of Brimfield, MA.; and Cynthia Denson and her husband Bruce of Oxford, MA. Kathy also leaves nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
It was Kathy’s strong belief that nurses serve a vital role in the health care continuum. That was so apparent to the family as nurses brought their skills and compassion to Kathy and her care givers. For those who wish to do so, the family welcomes donations in Kathy’s memory to provide student aid and scholarships for the next generation of nurses. Contributions may be forwarded by mail or online to the Holyoke Community College Foundation, 303 Homestead Avenue, Holyoke, MA. 01040.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, services will be private and held at a later date. The family has entrusted Kathy’s care with Tylunas Funeral & Cremation Service, Chicopee, MA.
