CHICOPEE-Margaret M. (Peg) Bednarz, nee Reilly, 81, a long-time resident of Chicopee and most recent resident of Wingate of East Longmeadow passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family and caregivers on September 2, 2019.  Peg was born in Springfield MA, the youngest of five children of Michael and Kathleen Reilly. Peg was raised in a tight-knit family of proud Irish decent in the Hungry-Hill section of Springfield.   Her Irish heritage, large and extended family held a special place in Peg’s heart and memory.  Peg graduated from Technical High School and went on to study nursing at Mercy Hospital. Peg was very proud of having received her RN degree. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick’s Church. Peg was predeceased by her parents Michael and Kathleen Reilly, brothers: Joseph Reilly, Jack Reilly, Francis Reilly, and sisters-in-law, Mary & Margaret Reilly.  She is survived by her children and their spouses: Stephen and wife Kelly Bednarz of Andover CT, Ann Capitano of Fairfax VA, and Christine and husband Ken Sears of Valparaiso IN.; (8) grandchildren:  Adam and Casey Bednarz, Andy and Lauren Capitano, and Ryan, Shannon, Katie and Emily Sears; her sister & brother-in-law Kay & George Poulpoulos, and many nieces and nephews. Peg was the loving wife of “Richie” Bednarz for 44 years and was predeceased by him in 2007. Peg was the consummate home maker.  She and Richie were the owners of Valley Refrigeration for over 20 years. During those years of raising their family and running the family business, Peg & Richie were always there for each other while preferring to care first for: family, customers, employees and others who they crossed paths with.  The little leisure time they had was enjoyed to the utmost with family and friends. In their retirement, Peggy and Richie were inseparable and enjoyed traveling. Peg was an excellent cook and loved entertaining family & friends. They welcomed everyone to take a swim in the pool and share in good food and cheer. Her family would like to thank all the special caregivers that have cared for Peg over the years, including Maureen McFarlin, Theresa O’Shaughnessy, Barbara Brunelle, and her special friends at Wingate, especially Paula Reynolds.  Family and friends may gather to remember Peg on Saturday,  September 7, 2019 at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway Street, Chicopee from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 104 Springfield St., Chicopee with Fr. Francis E. Reilly, Celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s cemetery, Fuller Rd., Chicopee.   In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Margaret’s name to the Alzheimer’s Care Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452
