Marian J. Munson

Marian J. (Ashe) Munson, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, with the comfort of her family being at her side. Born on March 26, 1924, in Chicopee, MA, a daughter of Edward and Eleanor (Labare) Ashe, she was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. Marian attended elementary school in Chicopee but graduated from Cathedral in Springfield in 1941. She worked at Chicopee Manufacturing, Red Barn as a waitress and retired after 30 years at Springfield Photo Mount Company in Holyoke as a Bookkeeper. She married her beloved husband, Elmer in 1944 and together they enjoyed 61 years of marriage until his passing in 2005. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor and brother in law, William Sourdiffe. Marian was a lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Chicopee and was a Women of the Moose (Passed), a member of the Bowlerettes Ten Pin League at the Plaza, a former Checkmates Square Dancer, and a dedicated Bingo player throughout Chicopee. Marian also enjoyed vacationing in Las Vegas. She enjoyed the countless backyard family picnics at her sisters, many family vacations at Hampton Beach, and the numerous bus trips to see the Red Sox at Fenway Park that started back in the Ted Williams days. Marian leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving children, Dennis Munson and his wife, Gail (Wuensch) of Enfield, CT, Donald Munson and his wife, Maureen (Provost), and Dianne (Munson) Dame and her husband, Robert all of Chicopee; 5 adored grandchildren Lori (Munson) Duncan and her husband, Daniel, Shelley (Munson) Labonte and her husband, Al, Kristen (Munson) Dragon and her husband, Daniel, Michael Dame and his wife, Pamela (Podgurski) and Jamie Dame and his wife, Lisa, (Lukasik); 12 great grandchildren, DJ, Nicholas, and Caitlin Duncan, Nathan, Zachary, and Drake Dragon, Isabel and Brooke Carpenter and Peyton Dame, Max, Gracie, and Carter Dame; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Nurses and Staff at East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center for the kind and gentle care their mother received these past 15 years. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, March 11, for a period of visitation for Marian from 9:15-10:15 a.m. at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s church. Burial will follow immediately after the Mass at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
