Marilyn G. (Platt) Carr

September 6, 1941 ~ October 12, 2019 (age 78)


WEST SPRINGFIELD-Marilyn G. Carr, 78, of Clayton drive in West Springfield passed away on Saturday evening, October 12, 2019 at Holyoke Hospital with her loving family at her side. Marilyn or  ‘‘The Queen” as her family lovingly sometimes referred to her, was born in Fall River on September 6, 1941, a daughter to the late Walter and Gertrude (Alty) Platt. She was raised and educated in Fall River, attending local schools and graduated from the former Sacred Heart Academy in 1959. She married Terry Neilson Carr and they began their family. Marilyn worked as a Manager for Abdows and Bickfords restaurants for many years before retiring to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She moved to West Spfld after Terry’s passing. She loved crafts and also hardly ever missed a grandchild’s sporting event. She was very active in the West Springfield Senior Center, was co-leader of the Travel Club, served as a Board member of the Friends of the W.S. Senior Center. She was also a member of the “Taste & Eat” outings at St. Thomas Church and member of the Gadabouts Social Club.  Her beloved husband, Terry, passed away in 1999. Marilyn is survived by her devoted children; daughter Terri- Lynne Kakluskas and husband Garry Kakluskas; sons, Steven Carr and wife Marcelle and Brian Carr and his girlfriend, Cindy. Her sister; Linda LeBelle and husband Jim, two sisters in law; Sherill Estes and Sandra Lewis. Six grandchildren; Carrie, Sarah, Paul, David, Missy and Josh and two great grandchildren; Hayden and Camden, and a special niece, Paula Brown.  There are no calling hours and Marilyn’s request was to be cremated and her ashes interred in Pleasant View Cemetery in Tiverton, Rhode Island with her beloved husband, Terry. Donations may be made in her memory in care of the Friends of the West Spfld. Senior Center, 128 Park St., West Spfld, MA. 01089. Tylunas Funeral Home and Cremation service has been entrusted with arrangements.
