WEST SPRINGFIELD-Martin W. “Marty” O’Brien, 66, of Churchill Rd. in West Springfield passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 7, 2018 after a four year battle with Prostate cancer. Marty was born in Springfield on May 5, 1952 the son of the late John and Mary T. (Bencivenni) Fortin. He grew up in Springfield and was educated in local schools. Marty worked for many years as a Service Technician for City Tire and later Sears Truck Tire. He was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Church in West Springfield. Marty enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, singing karaoke and playing the guitar with family and friends. Marty enjoyed cooking, especially baking. He leaves his wife; Mary (Holt) O’Brien. His sons; Timothy E. O’Brien and Nathan D. O’Brien and his wife Kristin and four grandchildren. Marty also leaves his siblings; John J. O’Brien, Kevin M. O’Brien, Kenny Fortin, Danny Fortin and Joelle O’Brien as well as several nieces and nephews. Marty’s request was to be cremated and the family will receive friends on Thursday evening, September 13, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Religious service at 7:00 p.m. at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee, Mass. Interment of Marty’s ashes in St. Thomas cemetery, West Springfield will be private.
