CHICOPEE- Michael J. Glancey III, 85, of Bonner St. in Chicopee passed away on Wednesday morning, December 27, 2017, in West Springfield surrounded by his family. Michael was born on September 5, 1932 to the late Michael J. Glancey and Ethel (Clark) Glancey. He was raised and educated in Springfield, attended local schools and graduated from Classical High School as well as attending Western New England University for 3 years. Michael proudly served in the US Army with the 358th Communications Recon. Co. He earned the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze stars, the UN Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After returning home, Michael began a long career with Friendly’s Corp., working his way up the ranks to Dispatcher, and finally retiring after 39 years of dedicated service in 1995. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ludlow. He also taught hockey over 20 years with the Ludlow Youth Hockey Association. Michael was a civil war buff and had a vast collection of books on the Civil war. Michael leaves his beloved wife of 62 years who he married on May 7, 1955; Carol Lee (Hartz) Glancey. His son; Michael Glancey and his wife Karen of Minnesota, his daughters; Lynn Galas and her husband Timothy of Chicopee and Colleen Glancey of Chicopee. Michael also leaves his grandchildren; Benjamin, Bryan and his fiancée Jackie, Brett and his wife Pam, Sean, Meghan and Erin, his great grandchildren; Noah, Lilyanna, Jake, Keira, Leila and Aubrielle and Stephanie Nadeau mother of Noah and Jake as well as nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by his brother, Fred Glancey. The family invites you to join them on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 119 Hubbard St., Ludlow for a Celebration of Michaels life. Burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery will be at a later date.
