CHICOPEE- Ronald St. Marie, 79, of Chicopee passed away peacefully at Baystate Medical Center on Tuesday March 20, 2018 with his family at his side. Ron or “Pop” and “Chief” as his family and grandchildren knew him, was born in Holyoke on May 31, 1938 the son of the late Alfred R. and Irene M. (Bilodeau) Ste. Marie. He was raised in Chicopee, growing up in the family home, where he resided all his life until his passing. Ronald was educated in Chicopee Schools, including the Belcher School and graduated from the former Chicopee Trade School. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1961, serving aboard the USS Magoffin with the 7th Fleet. Ronald served in the Pacific theatre of Operations. He was honorably discharged in 1965. He lived in Hawaii after being discharged briefly before returning home. He married the love of his life; Carole A. (Rostowski) on March 3, 1973, and they celebrated 45 loving years together after meeting as High School sweethearts and being reunited.  He began a long career as a Customer Engineer with IBM for 35 years and later for BSMC in Springfield for 13 years before his retirement. Ronald was known as the man who could fix or build almost anything, whether electronic, masonry or carpentry. He never gave less than 100 percent to whatever he did and his work always reflected it. Ronald was a longtime member of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks 1849 and a longtime member of the Dante Club in West Springfield. He was an avid racquetball player with the Elks and Dante Club- winning numerous matches and tournaments over the years.  He leaves his loving wife of 45 years; Carole A. (Rostowski) St. Marie. His children; Wayne of West Spfld., Rene and his wife Jennifer of Franklin, Ma., Kim of Chicopee and Michelle of Ludlow. His cherished grandchildren; Nicholas, Tristan, Tyler and Sydney and a great grandson, Colton. He also leaves his brother; Terry St. Marie and his wife Ann of Easthampton and several nieces and nephews. He was sadly predeceased by his sisters; Judith St. Marie and Elaine Fortin.  Calling hours for Ronald will be Monday afternoon, March 26, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee. Funeral Services for Ronald will be Tuesday morning, March 27 at 9:45 a.m. from the Tylunas Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s RC Church, 319 Broadway St. Burial with US Navy honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fuller Rd., Chicopee. Donations in Ronald’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
