CHICOPEE-Shirley Nina (Pichette) Kolnicki, 80, of 418 Montgomery Street in Chicopee passed away peacefully on Friday evening at the Atrium in Agawam. Shirley was born in Springfield on June 10, 1938, the daughter of the late Thomas and Nina (Sunstrum) Pichette. Shirley spent almost her entire life on Montgomery Street, raised on the family farm, growing vegetables & fruits and raising livestock. She worked in her younger years at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Shirley liked to paint and also played the piano. She was an avid hiker and nature enthusiast, learning to enjoy nature and understanding the cycle of life from her years spent on the farm. Her husband, Walter Kolnicki predeceased her. She leaves her sons; Mark and Steve Kolnicki of Chicopee and Gary Kolnicki of Columbus, Ohio, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, a brother Earl Pichette predeceased her. At Shirley’s request, she will be cremated and along with her late husband, Walter, their ashes will be scattered on the land they loved so much. There are no calling hours or formal services.
