Readsboro, VT ~ Walter Lapa Jr., 69, of Readsboro, VT passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday December 26, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.  Walter was born in Worcester, MA on May 9, 1950, a son of the late Walter and Emelina Lapa (Cini).  Walter grew up on Joy St. in Chicopee where he spent his youth working on the family farm and playing baseball.  Walter went on to become skilled in the construction trade and formed his own company, Lapa Roofing and Siding, working as a general contractor for over 5 decades.  He was known as a generous boss and a hard working guy providing for his family.  Walter enjoyed donating his time to coach Chicopee youth football and could always be found at sporting events cheering on his children and grandchildren. He also was active in raising money for the Children’s Christmas Party fund by hosting his famous “Bar Bango” at the Eagles club in Chicopee and later at Pixie’s Depot in Monroe.   Walter especially loved his animals, his garden, and was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Orioles.  Upon retirement, Walter and his wife Kathy moved to Readsboro where he enjoyed his many acres in the mountains and made many good friends.  Most of all, Walter loved his family and friends and always loved a good time.  He enjoyed telling stories around the fire to his grandchildren and shared the love of the outdoors with them.  Walter will forever be remembered for his witty humor, clever comebacks and infamous one-liners.  In addition to his parents; Walter and Emelina, Walter was predeceased by his siblings; Walter and Edward Lapa and his brother in law, Roger M. Lebeau. He leaves a beloved wife; Kathleen (Warren) Lapa.  His cherished children; Jessica Lapa-Beals and Elliott Beals of Hampton, NH, Audrey Lapa and Louie Brault, Gregg and Heather Lapa, Walter III and Kristina Lapa, Stephen and Jamie Lapa, all of Chicopee.  Davin and Casey Mancini of Bailey, MI, Chris Mancini of Gilbert, AZ, and Michael Dwyer of San Francisco, CA. His devoted sisters; Patricia Z. Lebeau of Chicopee and Edna and her husband Armand Boileau of Chicopee.  His fourteen grandchildren; Amber, Elliott, Ethan, Emma, Jake, Ava, Aiden, Davin, Logan, Billie, Cayden, Grayson, Ryker, Ally and one great granddaughter, Leilani.  He also leaves his niece and goddaughter Andrea Boileau and nephew Brandon Gregoire and the many extended members of the Lapa and Cini families.  ​Family and friends will gather to remember Walter on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee to share stories, laugh and remember his infectious smile and spirit.  â€‹Donations in Walter’s memory can be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
